The winning team was Joe Cooper and Peter Ensor from Kama with Sonja Schamberger from Mimosa and Jane Michael from Kiti. The total raised was €580 which went to Pasycaf and the Merlin Dog Haven charities.
On 28th July 2020 we played against Mimosa for the Friendship Cup which was donated by Chris and Linda Fourmy who were going back to the UK (Wales) after 11 years as Kiti Bowls Club members.
Chris and Linda wanted this to be an annual event to remember them but due to Covid restrictions we did not play for it in 2021 and the Cup went missing in Jacksons’ refurbishment. As Chris and Linda have not come back to visit us in Cyprus we arranged a date and played Mimosa on 26th June 2024.
The format was 12 games of triples with Janet Bennett, Ian Ingrey, Edith Brown-Ploeg and Mick Hughes guesting for Mimosa to even the numbers.
Mick, Adrienne and Trevor won both matches 9-8 and 19-3
John, Jason and Jan lost 8-9 and won 23-3
Terry, Bob P. and Joan lost 5-10 and won 11-7
Val, Deb and Charlie won both matches 12-10 and 11-4
Alex, Jane M. and Bob S. won 15-7 and lost 4-13
Jane A., Juliet and George won 15-7 and lost 8-9.
The final score was 8-4 to Kiti. However, in 2020 Chris and Linda presented the trophy to Mimosa as the losers as ‘it is not the winning that counts it is the taking part’ when it is a friendly. Trevor asked whether we should follow that principle as, for the second time, Mimosa were the losers but Kevin, magnanimously suggested that it should be a draw as both teams were such good friends and the trophy was shared. We had 40 people attend Stou Nikola for an excellent meal.
Thank you to Edith for the excellent photos.
We held a charity event on Wednesday, 29th May 2024 at Kiti to support the 2nd Chance Dogs charity. https://www.2ndchancedogs.org/?lang=el
We used Mimosa’s Monthly Challenge Shield format with 24 players from Kiti and Mimosa playing 4 games of 5 ends of Triples. I was grateful to Jackie Graco for scoring and calculating the aggregate scores. The winner was Charlie Whittle with 30 points and Stephan Schamberger was the runner up with 28 points. Janet Bennett won the wooden spoon prize with 8 points. Our members were extremely generous with donations of food for the cafe and prizes for the raffle. Terry Thomson-Dewey deserves a special mention for his excellent pies. Monica Szemethy was assisting Doris Karayianni from the charity in selling dog and cat supplies and Gill Line and Adrienne Michael worked tirelessly in the cafe. Jan Dykes organised the raffle and John Davies entertained us with his wit in the drawing of the raffle prizes. Overall the charity made approximately €750.

The total score was 8-8 and remarkably the total shots score was also even at 97-97. Unfortunately, it was not enough to catch Akamas in the league table and, although we caught Kama on points, our total shots was just 5 points behind.

The bowls clubs across the island have been unable to hold their annual Charity Days in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus restrictions. As the clubs have started playing again Kevin Males from Mimosa organised a 3 day Charity Event at Mimosa on 19th, 20th and 21st October 2021.
96 players took part from 7 clubs, Mimosa, Kiti, Kama, New Shogun, Star, Akamas and Polis. We had 8 players from Kiti and Barrie Cole got through to the Final and finished as a runner up.
On the third day we played in teams from the East versus the West. As part of the East team with Mimosa and Kama we had a convincing victory winning 13 games to 3.
The most important part of the event was that the total raised for charity was 3358 euros which will be split evenly between PASYKAF and the Paphos Kidney Association.

We had 13 entrants for our Memorial Cup which was played on 7th July 2021 with one group of 4 over 8 ends and three groups of 3 over 12 ends. The winners of each group went into the semi finals where Janet Bennett beat Monica Szemethy 7-3 and Ian Ingrey beat Val Cole 7-3. Janet beat Ian 5-3 in the final to win the trophy .
Thank you to everyone who took part and congratulations to Janet.
As we were unable to hold our Charity Day due to the coronavirus restrictions the Kiti Bowls Club members agreed to give a donation of 1000 euros from club funds which was presented to Father Sotiri for the poor people of Kiti on 17th June 2021.
We held our In House competitions during November. There was no Fours competition this year due to our social distancing rules due to coronavirus.
Thank you to everyone who attended the finals of the In House competitions on 24th November 2020.
The Results of the Finals were:
MENS SINGLES RAY v IAN 9-10

TRIPLES JANET, IAN & JOAN v RAY, MONICA & TREVOR 5 -14
Congratulations to all the winners .
We played Ten Pin Bowling at Rock N Bowl in Dhekelia Road, Pyla on Wednesday, 18th November 2020 against a team from the Ten Pin Bowling Group for the Matt Lane Memorial Trophy in honour of Matt who played both sports.
We were meant to play against Mimosa but they were unable to field a team due to coronavirus concerns about playing indoors. However, the venue had been allowed to hold the event so we played against a team of regular Ten Pin bowlers.
We played two games with 10 players in each team and the winners were the team with the highest aggregate score. Our players who scored over 100 were Bob 145 and 144; Peter 144 and 111; Jan 141 and 112; Trevor 138 and 110; Dave 115; Caz 105; and Brian 100.
Although they were all good scores, not surprisingly the regular players also scored well and the total aggregate scores were 2259 – 2109 to the Ten Pin bowlers.
Carol awarded the trophy to Peter Parish who returned it to Carol so we can challenge Mimosa again when the virus situation improves.
It was a very enjoyable evening followed by a meal.
After a long break from competitive bowling due to coronavirus we arranged a friendly game on 28th July 2020 against Mimosa followed by a meal at Jacksons to say farewell to Chris and Linda Fourmy who were going back to the UK (Wales) after 11 years as Kiti Bowls Club members.
Chris and Linda donated a trophy which they named the Friendship Cup as they want this to be an annual event to remember them.
The format was 18 games of 4 bowl pairs and both teams had plenty of players. The final score was 11-7 to Kiti. However, Chris and Linda presented the trophy to Mimosa as the losers as ‘it is not the winning that counts it is the taking part’ when it is a friendly. We had 59 people attend Jacksons for the excellent meal and the trophy will be kept in our Trophy Cabinet at Jacksons. Chris and Linda were wished good luck and best wishes for their future by everyone.
Our squad stayed in the Paphos area for an early start away to Akamas at the Droushia Heights Hotel on Monday, 9th March 2020. Charlie and Debs decided not to play after celebrating Charlie’s birthday so we had a squad of 10. Bob played both the singles games but was out of luck. Fortunately, Val & Barrie kept up their good form with two more wins in the pairs. The triples and fours had two close games both winning one and losing one so we finished with a draw with 4 wins each.
We played away to New Shogun on Sunday, 8th March 2020 with a squad of 12 players. We had 3 wins by Charlie in the singles and Val & Barrie in both the pairs games. Unfortunately, the threes and the fours both lost on the last end of the second set of games so we lost by 5 games to 3 whereas we could have got a draw or even a win if those last couple of shots had gone our way.
Despite the cold weather and drizzling rain we had an excellent turn out of 20 members to play long mat bowls at Brian Prescott’s house in Xylofagou on Tuesday, 11th February 2020. We had five teams of fours playing a round robin tournament . Congratulations to the winners Trevor, Joan, Cynthia and Ray; and a huge thank you to our host, Brian.

We played Ten Pin Bowling at Rock N Bowl in Dhekelia Road, Pyla on Wednesday, 13th November 2019 against a team from Mimosa for the Matt Lane Memorial Trophy in honour of Matt who played both sports.
We played two games with 8 players in each team and the winners were the team with the highest aggregate score. Our players who scored over 100 were Bob 132 and 109; Trevor 122 and 109, Frank 119; and guests Peter 148 and 105 and Tracey 111.
Unfortunately, Mimosa’s players also scored well and the total aggregate scores were 1770 – 1528 to Mimosa.
Trevor awarded the trophy to Kevin Males who had kindly donated the trophy in honour of Matt and we have agreed to make this an annual event.
It was a very enjoyable evening followed by a meal.
We played at home against Mimosa Dolphins on Tuesday, 12th November 2019. We had just received the sad news that Phil Lodwick of Akamas SMBC had passed away so a minute’s silence was observed to honour his memory.
We had alot of our regular players missing so Ray played the singles; Val and Bob the pairs; Linda, Chris and Joan the triples ; and Gill, Jane, Brian and Trevor in the fours. As usual, Mimosa had a strong team and won 3 of the first matches comfotably with our fours securing a 6-6 draw for one point. The second set of games saw another 3 wins for Mimosa with Bob playing an excellent shot to get 3 on the last end to earn us a point in a 12-12 draw in the pairs.
The results and current table have been updated on the website.
We had 16 entrants for our Memorial Cup which was played over 8 ends with 4 groups of 4. The winners of each group went into the semi finals where Ray Williams beat Trevor Hughes and Gill Line beat John Wells. Ray beat Gill 9-5 in the final to win the trophy which was presented by Mary Berriman who donated the trophy in memory of her husband Bob Berriman.
We had our first win of the season in the TENs league at home against New Shogun on Friday, 25th October 2019.
Well done to Charlie in the singles, Bob & Janet in the Pairs and Linda, Chris & Joan in the Triples as they all won both of their games. Unfortunately, the Fours lost both of their games which gave us a final score of 12-4 with a total shot count of 122-73.
We are temporarily top of the table as there are two fixtures to be played on Sunday.
The Cyprus Short Mat Bowls National Competitions were held at New Shogun on 4th, 5th and 6th October 2019.
We had a successful first day with our Mixed Pairs, Bob & Janet and our Mixed Fours, Val, Deb, Barrie & Charlie winning their preliminary matches.
Therefore, we played in all the semi finals on Saturday but only Bob Smith made it through to the Final of the Mens 4 bowl singles on Sunday. Congratulations to Bob who won 21-10 in the Final against Colin Lawrence from Kama and is pictured above with his trophy.
Also, congratulations to all the other winners from the other clubs.
We played our first Tens League match of the season at home against Kama on Tuesday, 1st October 2019.
A minute’s silence was observed before the start of play in honour of our dear friend and member Matt Lane who sadly passed away last week.
We were able to field our entrants in next weekend’s National Competition in the Pairs, Bob and Janet, the Triples, Linda, Chris and Joan and the Fours, Val, Deb, Barrie and Charlie. Each of these teams won one match and lost one match. The singles were played by Trevor and Ray who both lost in close matches 17-21 and 20-21 resectively. Overall we lost by 6 points to 10 with the total shots 100 -118.
Hopefully, it was good practice for everyone before their National Competition matches at the weekend.
I am pleased to report that our Club Captain, Trevor Hughes, has passed the SMB Umpire’s Course so we now have a Qualified Umpire.
The organisers are still looking to recruit more umpires. The costs will be paid by the Club.
On successful completion you will be eligible to umpire competitions around the island. The course is in two parts: a written test based on the Rule Book and a practical and oral test to show that you know how to measure the bowls correctly.
I was very impressed by the way the course was run by Fred and Glenis.

Kevin Males’ team beat Tony Lenton’s team 8-5 in the final. The trophies were presented by Andreas from our Sponsors, Jackson Gastro Cafe Bar. https://jacksoncafebar.com/
The event was followed by a very successful Dinnner and Dance at The Sun Hall Hotel, Larnaca with 75 members and guests.
There was a tombola and raffle on the day to help support the charity and our total donation to the charity was 2250 euros.
WEDNESDAY, 3rd JULY 2019
We had an excellent turnout for a social evening of Ten Pin Bowling at Rock N Bowl in Dhekelia Road, Pyla.
20 members and 7 guests made up the numbers playing with 29 sitting down for a buffet meal afterwards. Some lovely photos were taken by Maria and posted on the Rock N Bowl Facebook page which I have shared on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/kitibowlsclub/
We played two games with lots of good scores. The top scorer on the night was Bob with 169. The others who scored over 100 were Debs 136, Guy 124, Ian 121, Charlie 115, Trevor 113 and 111, Ray 111, Matt 109, Valerie106 and Barrie 101.
The Kama Charity Day was on Saturday 25th May 2019 and we had seven entrants in the Ken Kennard Cup. Linda Fourmy lost in the semi finals but congratulations to Peter Offer for reaching the final although his team lost on the last end. It was a very well organised event and 1000 euros was raised for the Royal British Legion. Thank you to our hosts at Kama.
On Tuesday 21st May 2019 we played a friendly match at newly formed Akamas SMBC at the Droushia Heights Hotel. Unfortunately, we were a little short on numbers making the journey across the island with captain, Trevor Hughes, stuck in the UK at Luton Airport among the absentees. However, everyone who were there had a great day. Thank you to our hosts.
On Sunday 19th May 2019 we played a friendly match at Mimosa Bowls Club with players from Leven Bowls Club from Yorkshire, UK who were visiting Cyprus with John & Kath Fussey. It was a very enjoyable day.
